Welcome to Torrey Pines GullsF5J Foamy Fun Fly
This is truly a fun-fly and a great way to get into F5J style flying. Any foamy or stick-built plane up to 2m (or so) is welcome. Night Radians are very popular but we also see Yellow Jackets (stick-built) and a variety of other vintage foamy and balsa stick-built aircraft.
If you are wanting to get into RC gliders and not quite sure where to start this is the place for you. Come on out and join in on the fun.
Contest Format
We fly 7-minute windows with standard F5J landing tapes. If you are just getting started and do not have a motor/altitude limiting device yet, no problem. Your timer will give you the 30 second call to cut your motor and the CD will announce a default launch height to be used for scoring purposes.
We typically pause mid-contest for a quick clinic. Subjects generally focus on F5J topics of interest to pilots getting into the format.
How to Participate
Everyone is welcome to come watch. You will need a current AMA membership to participate. As long as your airplane is safe to fly, come out and have fun!
Entry is free, but please register so we know how many people to expect!
Event registration will be through F3X Vault. Registration details for each event will be provided in advance on our Discord server and Google Groups.
Contest Location
Contests will be held at the Poway Field. Our ongoing use of these properties is totally dependent on being good guests. Please respect the rules and make safe flying your number one priority.
Pilot meetings are generally at 8:45am and the events usually wrap up around noon.
